I have been asked by Phil if I could reflect over a few evergreen moments over the last year since I became a member of the congregation of St. James after the loss of my lovely wife Vera in May 2009.
The first thing I remember is the warm welcome I received from the people here at St. James and some of the lovely cheerful Family Service I have been to throughout the year. Who could forget the lovely Christingle Service of 2009? To come into Church and leave the commercial hype of Christmas outside the Church door and to get the true meaning of Christmas with a lovely service and carols and prayers.
I must thank Phil for his Memorial Services. I have been to four altogether and each one has something to reflect on. We all always remember our loved ones but it’s nice to gather together for these lovely Services and know that everyone is prayer for each other on these special occasions.
One of the highlights of my years was that beautiful Summer’s day, Saturday July 3rd and going to Southwell Minster for the Ordination to Priesthood of our lovely Denise. The choice of music and Service were just perfect and the gradual Hymn ‘Be Still in the Presence of the Lord’ always does something for me. I don’t know what but whenever it’s sung at St. James it is always the same – may it never go away.
